How to Install Your Mailbox Numbers

Here is how to install mailbox numbers, letters or a W monogram from Westchase Signs. Every order is pre-spaced on transfer tape, so installing takes just a few minutes.

Before you start

The red grid on the transfer tape that lifts the numbers is not necessarily level, so do not use the red lines as a guide for keeping the numbers level. Instead, measure to find the midpoint of the mailbox number panel and the midpoint of the numbers, so the numbers line up properly and sit centered in the panel before you start.

How to install your mailbox numbers

  1. Clean and dry the panel. The mailbox number panel should be clean and dry. If you are painting the mailbox, wait until the paint has cured before applying the numbers.
  2. Peel back the transfer tape slowly. Peel the red-lined transfer tape back slowly, and make sure it picks up every number off the white backing as you pull it back.
  3. Hold both ends. As you reach the end, hold both ends so the tape does not flip over and stick to itself.
  4. Position carefully. Hold the numbers close to the panel and centered. Once the numbers touch the panel, they will not come off, so make sure they are exactly where you want them before the adhesive side touches the mailbox.
  5. Press firmly. Once the numbers are on the mailbox, run a credit card or another stiff straight edge over all the numbers. Avoid anything sharp.
  6. Remove the clear tape. Slowly peel back the clear transfer tape at a sharp angle, watching that the numbers do not lift. If a number starts to lift, stop, press the transfer tape back down on that number, and rub it again until it transfers to the mailbox.

Every number set includes two sets, one for each side of your mailbox. Repeat the same steps on the other side.
